The First Step To Creating A Better Life

So…how are things going in your life now? If you are able to answer “perfect”, then that’s great. Keep up the good work. For most of us however, there are always changes, both large and small that we need to make on an ongoing basis.

I always use the example that when you were just starting out in kindergarten you had the skills of a kindergartener. Then you went to first grade and beyond and gained additional skills, both academic and social. You developed likes and dislikes based on the person you were becoming at that time.

As an adult, things aren’t much different except that as we go through our day-to-day life, the change is not as distinct as moving up a grade in school. Therefore, we need to each be aware of the changes that we are experiencing in our life and adjust accordingly. More importantly, we need to think about and be aware of the changes that we would like to create.

The question becomes, when we are so focused on a certain lifestyle and routine, how do we make that change happen? And while the answer can be different for different people, there are many things that are the same for pretty much everyone.

Number one on the agenda is to stop and think. If you’re not happy with your life or an area of your life, the first step is to slow down enough to notice it. Then you can begin to focus on the changes you need to make.

It all starts in your mind. Everything starts in your mind as a thought. The key to creating a happy fulfilling life is to be aware of the changes that you need to make on a daily basis because just as the way you were in kindergarten would not work for you as an adult today, the adult you were in the past might not work for the person you are today and the person you would like to become.

Each stage of our life brings on different needs and therefore changes the way we think. When you were a teenager you might not have liked some of the rules your parents had. If you are a parent now, some of those rules might seem like they might make a whole lot more sense. Your need is different.

Don’t wait until you move to the next grade. Change your life at any time. As for today, start by thinking about the area of your life that you want to make better. Plant the thought and let it grow.

And always remember that you are not alone. If you are trying to change something in your life, there are people who have made that change before you and there are people who will make it after you. You are never alone when you are looking to change and improve your life.

Feel free to share the changes you are working on in the comments below. We look forward to hearing from you!
